Hendra Yuniarto, the KFC Indonesia marketing general manager, said the newest flavor was part of its innovation campaign called "Taste of Asia," which was launched last year. "Why salted egg? Because salted egg is already familiar to the Indonesian tongue. With Taste of Asia, we don't want to ruin the taste of the chicken," Hendra told the press over the weekend, as quoted by Read also Chocolate chicken not finger lickin' good, says netizens Although it was made available on Feb. 1, research and development for the salted egg flavor began at the end of 2016. Hendra said the company had committed to regularly releasing a new special Asian flavor under its Taste of Asia banner every year. Previously, KFC released "Hotz Chicken." "In Indonesia, we are targeting trends in the categories of chili and savoriness. Since 2017, we have developed new dishes [for each year] through to 2019. This year, we have started to develop a new dish for 2020," Hendra said. I first heard about KFC Salted Egg Yolk Chicken, a new product of KFC Philippines, couple of months ago when it was said to be on a pilot test-run. That time, it was only available on very limited KFC store branches. I tried to search for those near my place to no avail. I was nowhere near the chosen stores, I figured. Then yesterday, I read from KFC Philippines' Facebook page their announcement about the availability of KFC Salted Egg Yolk Chicken. In contrast to the sneaky way KFC Philippines inserted this elusive product on their menu on its test run, this time, it was a legit announcement that KFC Salted Egg Yolk Chicken is now available for everyone to enjoy. KFC Salted Egg Yolk Chicken is said to be the First Egg-xecutive Order of the very first KFC Filipino Colonel, who happened to be the charismatic seasoned actor Ronaldo Valdez. I am not sure about this Egg-xecutive order thing at KFC PH these days. But it is quite exciting to think that there will be series of orders which may stand for new KFC local creations to be rolled out in the future. Just a thought. Going back to KFC Salted Egg Yolk Chicken, I find it good enough to merit a repeat order in my future visits at KFC as long as it is available on the menu. Good enough, the operative words. Because while it was a far cry from the best salted egg chicken dishes I have tried in different food places and restaurants, it is still good considering it comes from a fast food joint. Basically, it is the KFC's Hot and Crisp Chicken coated with salted egg yolk sauce. The sauce is served on the side for those who wants their food to go. Otherwise, the chicken will already be doused with sauce once served. Yes, you may bid adieu to your well-loved gravy for the time being yet, it isn't a crime if you prefer otherwise. Personally, I suggest to skip the gravy. The distinct flavor of the salted egg yolk is present, however, I find it rather subtle at first bite. I find myself scraping the extra sauce that settled at the bottom of my plate to gently pour it again to the remains of my chicken. Only then that I was able to really capture the taste I was looking for - somehow. Salted egg yolk flavor shines through when incorporated with a little spicy kick. I guess that is the reason why KFC opted for their Hot and Crisp variant instead of the Original Recipe. Now the thing is, since the salted egg yolk flavor of the sauce is a bit weak, there is a tendency for the spiciness of the chicken to overpower the entire dish. This is possible to happen especially if the diners are not really fond of spicy chicken but would love to have a taste of this new KFC chicken variant. On the other hand, for those who loves spicy chicken such as myself, it is a good enough option to have when wanting of something different other than the usual suspects at KFC. KFC Salted Egg Yolk Chicken is priced at for a meal which includes 1pc KFC Salted Egg Yolk Chicken, garlic rice, mushroom soup, and a drink. I know you are curious about KFC Salted Egg Yolk Chicken so I suggest that you visit your favorite KFC branch or you may order via KFC Delivery at 887-8888 for Metro Manila or visit
